The Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU) and the Brazilian Post and Telegraph Company (ECT) signed an agreement to guarantee the right to delivery services to residents of areas considered “restricted” in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. With the agreement, approved by the Federal Court on the 5th, it will be possible to send goods to the so-called Delivery Restriction Areas (ARE) via alternative routes.
According to the DPU, an internal regulation of the Post Office classifies as ARE the places that do not present security conditions for the postman for home delivery. According to the standard, ECT can adopt “defensive measures” for delivery in these areas.
The Correios delivery restriction policy also establishes, according to the DPU, different (longer) deadlines for some zip codes or called “internal delivery” – the retention of the order at the ECT headquarters closest to the consumer’s residence, who is responsible for collecting it.
“Among the measures to be taken [pelos Correios] is hiring local providers to carry out the parcel delivery service in these restricted regions, through the Price Registration System (SRP); the placement of self-service terminals, offering recipients in restricted areas the option of withdrawal using the QR Code or access code sent by the Post Office; and the hiring of small service providers (MEI) for home delivery in these locations”, said the DPU, in a note.
According to the Public Defender’s Office, the agreement also provides that the Post Office must also make the delivery restriction criteria public to users, as well as the new alternative delivery service modalities, so that the recipient is aware of all the necessary procedures.
THE Brazil Agency asked the Post Office for the locations in the Metropolitan Region of SP where the new delivery system will begin to operate and is awaiting a response.
