THE The plan foresees, by the end of November, a loan of up to R$20 billion, to reduce the deficit, return to financial balance in 2026 and generate profit in 2027.

The actions planned to guarantee “continuity, efficiency and quality” of postal services were approved last Wednesday (19).

According to Correios, the plan was prepared after analyzing the financial situation and the current business model to return to financial balance within a period of 12 months.

“Given the scenario of falling revenues and increasing operating costs, the restructuring includes three phases: financial recovery, consolidation and growth”, explains the state-owned company.

Measurements

Among the measures are:

  • Voluntary Dismissal Program;
  • Reduction of employee health plan costs;
  • Modernization and readjustment of the operational model and technological infrastructure;
  • Reduction of up to 1,000 loss-making branches to improve the service network;
  • Sale of properties to generate revenue, estimated at R$1.5 billion.

There is forecast of expansion in e-commerce and strategic partnershipsin addition to the possibility of mergers and acquisitions operations and other corporate reorganizations to increase competitiveness in the medium and long term.

The new business model reinforces the universalization of postal services, as Correios’ public mission, even in the most remote and difficult to access locations.

The expectation is that, once such measures are adopted, the deficit will be reduced over the next year, and that profitability will resume as early as 2027.

Package

After closing the year 2024 in the red, with a total loss of R$2.6 billion, the company announced, in May this year, a package of measures which included another voluntary dismissal program (PDV); reduction of working hours to 6 hours per day in administrative units; temporary suspension of the 2025 holidays and the decree of the end of remote work.

The latest edition of the Correios POS was attended by approximately 3,500 employees, which generated annual savings of around R$750 million.

Structure

The Post Office is present in 5,568 municipalities, in addition to the Federal District and the State District of Fernando de Noronha (PE), according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The structure covers more than 10 thousand service agencies, 8 thousand operational units (distribution and processing of orders and correspondence), 23 thousand vehicles and 80 thousand direct employees.

Among the services provided by Correios are delivery of textbooks to public schools; the distribution of Enem tests simultaneously throughout the territory; the delivery of electronic voting machines in difficult-to-access locations; distribution of supplies and other items in emergency and calamity situations, such as the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, and more recently, to families affected by the tornado in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu (Paraná), on November 7.
