Coronavirus in Cuba: infections rise from 40 on Wednesday

The new infections identified until midnight on Wednesday, July 6, in Cuba amounted to 43, after processing 2,728 samples, as reported by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP).

The most recent part of the health agency points out that there were no deaths related to the COVID-19 on the day, so the 8,529 deaths since the start of the pandemic remain, as well as the case fatality rate remains at 0.77%.

Currently, 375 people are hospitalized, of which 199 are suspected of having contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus, while 176 are confirmed active.

Of the new patients, 23 are women and 20 are men. Likewise, 37 were contacts of confirmed cases, three recently returned to the country with the infection and the source of infection of three other patients could not be established.

In terms of age, 19 are under 20 years old, a dozen are between 20 and 39 years old, two appear in the range of 40 to 59 years old while 12 are over 60 years old.

Except for the provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba and Holguín, the rest of the territories reported infections and Havana was the main focus, with 15 new patients. The rest did not exceed the figure of five cases.

The Minsap also reported that 41 medical discharges were granted on the day, and that the two evacuated at the beginning of the pandemic and the 57 returned to their countries remain.

At the same time, it was learned that two confirmed patients are kept in the intensive care units, one of them reported as critical and the other in serious condition.
