Coronavirus does not stop and this week there were 10 deaths

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) issued its weekly report regarding the monitoring of the development of the coronavirus disease in Uruguay. On this occasion, the trend recorded in the latest reports was maintained and the 51st week of the year resulted in a significant increase in the number of new cases detected.

In the week between December 18 and 24, 8,216 new cases were registered against the 4,941 cases that were registered in the previous period (December 11 to 17), that is, 3,275 more cases. This figure represents an increase of 60% of the cases compared to the previous mark.

Likewise, with 27,401 tests carried out in the last seven days, positivity (percentage of tests that came back positive) rose to 30% compared to 22.2% the previous week.

Regarding the number of deaths, in the last week 10 people infected with coronavirus died. This figure represents a significant increase of five times more deaths compared to last week, where two people died.

Until the closing of the report, the number of active cases (people with the disease) closed at 7,631. This translates to 3,032 more cases compared to last week. On the other hand, the occupancy of hospital beds ITC by parts of patients with covid remained the same, at 1.7%.

Since the first case of coronavirus was registered in the country, there have been 1,011,988 positive cases and 7,562 deaths.
