Fans of São Paulo and Corinthians clashed this Sunday afternoon (26) before the classic dispute between the two teams at Morumbis, for the Campeonato Paulista, scheduled to take place at 6:30 pm.
According to the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat, the confrontation took place far from the São Paulo stadium, on Avenida Marques de São Vicente, in the Barra Funda region. Videos circulating on social media show fans fighting each other with sticks. Firework noises are also heard.
So far, the ministry said, there is no record of injuries or any incidents reported in emergency units in the region.
Since 2016, there has been a limitation on single fans in games taking place in the state of São Paulo. Due to this rule, classics held in São Paulo have the sole presence of fans of the home club. In this Sunday’s Majestoso, as the classic between São Paulo and Corinthians is known, the home team is São Paulo.
In October last year, the Court of Justice of the state of São Paulo (TJ-SP) announced that it would forward the proposal for analysis to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) expand the single crowd for other games held in the country. One of the proposals that would be suggested to the CBF is that interstate classics also have the presence of fans only from the home team.
