Before the former advisers of the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE), and former presidents José Woldenberg and Jacqueline Peschard, Córdova stressed that the function of the Judiciary is to be a counterweight, which is why it has already stopped some important decisions in the past and that is what it is for, ” to be uncomfortable with power, not by vocation, but by function”.
“We are all responsible for consolidating democracy,” said Córdova when calling for the presentation of all kinds of legal resources.
“That the parties do their job and that the parliamentary minorities do their job as has been happening, that actions of unconstitutionality are presented, that the electoral bodies present constitutional controversies, that the INE workers defend their labor rights and that the citizens resort to legal instances, because if the INE is affected, the conditions of authenticity are affected and the right to vote is affected ”, added the counselor.
The path, he explained, will be through trials for the protection of the political and electoral rights of citizens.
“Individually or collectively they must, if we want to defend democracy, present all the resources within the legal channels,” he said.
Córdova mentioned that the first two reforms that have already been approved and are in force (the General Law of Social Communication and the Law of Administrative Responsibilities) will be challenged before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) this week, via constitutional controversies.
