Coraasan will assume damages to homes after a pipe collapse

The Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation of Santiago (Coraasan) reported that it will compensate for the damage caused to homes affected by the fault recorded this Thursday in a pipeline main of Cibao Central aqueductwhich occurred in the La Zanja community, in the municipality Savannah Churchprovince Santiagowithout any human losses.

According to a official statementthe breakdown occurred at 11:20 in the morning today, December 25, in the 60-inch post-tensioned concrete adduction raw water collection line, infrastructure that supplies the Cibao Central aqueductwhich serves Santiago and Mocha.

Affected homes

A technical lifting carried out by a commission of the institution determined that four homes were affected by the incident.

Regarding the drinking water service, Coraasan explained that the supply was temporarily suspended in the municipalities of Puñal, Licey al Medio, Tamboril, a large part of the main municipality Santiago de los Caballeros and La Dura de Moca.

This interruption affects approximately 60 percent of the population of the province of Santiago and the municipality of Moca, which represents about 800 thousand people.

The institution specified that the damaged pipe has more than 30 years in operation and a driving capacity of five cubic meters per second, equivalent to 115 million gallons diaries.

He indicated that, once the failure was detected, the line was immediately downloaded as preventive measure to avoid other incidents.

Coraasan He also clarified that prior to this breakdown, a purchasing process had been submitted in the transactional portal of the State to subcontract a company that would carry out maintenance work in that section of the pipeline.

While the repair work is being carried out, the supply of drinking water will be carried out through tanker trucks.
