The general secretary of Copei, Juan Carlos Alvarado, considers that the Amnesty Law will only have a true impact if there is a genuine will for rectification on the part of all the political sectors involved.
“This law will have strength to the extent that we can recognize each other, to the extent that we can respect each other, but above all that we can rectify. If there is no rectification exercise, this law will remain a dead letter.”
He highlighted Copei’s support for this legal instrument, which was approved in the first discussion with the unanimous vote of all the political factors present in Parliament.
“Some think that an amnesty law could be a symptom of giving up. I want to tell you that this is not necessarily a sign of weakness. On the contrary, I think it is a sign that the act of recomposition may exist,” he argued.
He assured that Copei himself was a protagonist in similar processes during the first government of Rafael Caldera, which facilitated political life in the country.
