Lanus qualified for the semi-final of the South American Cup by winning on penalties (5-6) Independent Medellin and after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Atanasio Girardot stadium, where they took a crucial step towards their dream of playing their third final in the tournament they won in 2013. After drawing 1-1 in the return match, the Granate players were up to the task with their shots: the only one who missed was Carlos Izquierdoz, who hit the post, while Walter Bou, Eduardo Salvio, Julio Soler, Felipe Peña, Agustín Torres and Marcelino Moreno did their job.
The goalkeeper Nahuel Losada did the same with his save from Pablo Lima, who at the end celebrated when Jherson Mosquera sent the ball over the bar. It was a different match to the one in La Fortaleza, where the home team did everything to win and was frustrated with a 0-0 draw. In the return match, DIM carried the weight of the match and had the best chances in the first half, but they were unable to finish when Baldomero Perlaza and Luis Sandoval, well assisted by Jherson Mosquera, took advantage of the advantages given to them by Julio Soler on the wing.
Before Daniel Londoño’s own goal in the 38th minute, when Granate was cornering the Colombian team with set pieces and goalkeeper Éder Chaux made a mistake in the exit, Ricardo Zielinski’s men had already warned with the header that was disallowed by Eduardo Salvio, who was important in the aerial football.

With the rival already on the scoreboard and taking control of the match, the Poderoso used the good shot of Homer Martínez, who most worried goalkeeper Nahuel Losada from mid-distance. Although Lanús charged with everything for the second, with Moreno leading each attack and Ramiro Carrera testing the reflexes of goalkeeper Chaux, the one who celebrated the goal in the 61st minute was Medellín with a goal by Ménder García.
That was a gamble by coach Alejandro Restrepo and the man responsible for finishing off a good action of pure speed by Jímer Fory, who made Nicolás Morgantini look bad and flirted strongly with the red card in the first half for a strong tackle on Nery Domínguez.
The Granate had a hard time coming to terms with the draw and began to suffer in the match against a DIM that knew how to grow after García’s goal, which Losada deprived of a double with his save in the best moment of the local team, pushed by a red tide and the mid-distance shots of Luis Sandoval and Martínez.

Zielinski’s team, which suffered from the departure of Raúl Loaiza due to injury, initially clung to the balls that Moreno sent into the area, but the ’10’ really caused damage by playing low with Agustín Rodríguez so that Walter Bou began to add clear chances and become a real threat to Chaux. The qualifying goal did not come for either of them and the penalties handed qualification to Lanús, who await Cruzeiro or Libertad in the semi-final.
