Needing a victory to qualify, Timão looked for a goal from the first minute, but ran into the safety of the Rubro-Negro defense. The team led by coach Filipe Luís overcame goalkeeper Hugo Souza in the 8th minute of the first half with Alex Sandro, but the move was annulled, with the help of VAR (video referee), due to the winger’s irregular position.
Still in the initial stage, but in the 27th minute, striker Bruno Henrique raised his leg too much and hit full-back Matheuzinho’s head in a tackle and ended up receiving a straight red card. With one man less, coach Filipe Luís decided to remove striker Gabriel Barbosa to replace defender Fabrício Bruno.
From then on, Corinthians even managed to create some opportunities, especially with striker Yuri Alberto, but Flamengo showed a lot of organization and determination to hold the draw until the end and guarantee classification.
