Atlético-GO is guaranteed in the second phase of the Copa do Brasil. This Thursday (3), Dragon beat União Rondonópolis by 3-0 at Estádio Luthero Lopes, in Rondonópolis (MT). The next opponent of Goiás will be Nova Venécia, which, earlier, defeated Ferroviário 2-1 at Estádio Zenor Pedrosa, in Nova Venécia (ES).
Despite the greater volume of play being from Atlético, the first good chance came from União, in the 33rd minute, in a header by defender Odail Júnior, after a free kick by midfielder Alex Maranhão, which goalkeeper Luan Polli saved. The visitors, who compete in Serie A of the Brazilian Championship, were rewarded for insisting on extra time in the initial stage. The midfielder Jorginho was launched in the area by the right and deflected first for the striker Dellatorre to finish and open the scoring.
In the second half, the Union launched the attack. Striker Giancarlo almost equalized in the 34th minute, when he hit the post with a free-kick. At 43, taking a penalty, midfielder Carlos Vitor decreed the victory of the Espírito Santo team – which has Antônio Marcos de Andrade, father of striker Richarlison, from Everton (England), as president. The hosts (who will compete in Serie D in 2022) will receive R$ 750 thousand for the classification.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) will still define the date and time of the meeting between Atlético and Nova Venécia. The command will be Goiás. Unlike the first phase, in which the best-placed teams in the entity’s ranking had the advantage of a tie, the duel for the second phase will be decided on penalties if the 90 minutes end in equality.
