The Panamanian flag airline Copa Airlines maintains normal flights to Cubawhere several airline companies have suspended itineraries due to difficulties in obtaining fuel supplies there due to a United States oil blockade.
“Copa Airlines continues to operate its flights from Panama normally. Since it is a relatively short leg, we are loading additional fuel in Panama.”tankeringwhich allows us to carry out both sections without the need to supply in Havana,” the company responded to EFE.
Four Canadian companies announced this week the cancellation of their operations to the island after the Cuban authorities informed them that they could not supply them with kerosene at any of the country’s nine international airports.
Russian airlines Rossiya and Nordwind also suspended their flights to Cuba “due to supply difficulties” and will not resume these routes “until the situation changes.”
The United States cut off shipments of Venezuelan oil to Cuba after the military operation with which it captured the president of that country, Nicolás Maduro, on January 3, and at the end of January threatened with tariffs on countries that provide fuel to the island.
In anticipation of an “acute fuel shortage,” the Cuban Government launched an emergency plan that includes everything from the paralysis of essential public services such as transportation to the closure of hotels and the relocation of tourists to other facilities.
