Conviasa inaugurates Caracas-Tehran route next #18Jun

As early as 2019, Conviasa was planning to establish a direct flight from Caracas to Iran and thus help strengthen ties with that country.

The state airline Conviasa reported on the afternoon of Sunday, May 22, that the route to Iran will open on June 18 and will have a frequency of 15 days.

According to Conviasa’s social networks, the purchase of tickets is now available on the institution’s portal just for the inaugural date of the Caracas-Tehran route. One way, the cheapest seat, has a value of 1,033.50 dollars, while the return -in the cheapest class- costs 957.30 dollars.

The flights to Iran from Caracas and chartered by Conviasa occur days after the visit to Venezuela of the Persian Oil Minister, Javad Owji, who met with the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro; the Oil Minister, Tareck El Aissami, and other senior officials.

Iran has become one of the strongest allies of the Nicolás Maduro administration since 2020, after the delivery of gasoline was coordinated by five tankers that year to alleviate the shortage situation in the country. In fact, Minister Owji’s visit also included a tour of the refineries, which, apparently, they have been helping to refurbish.

The talks between Conviasa and Mahan Air, one of Iran’s flagship airlines -which is sanctioned by the US as well as the Venezuelan state-owned airline- They have been there since April 2019 when a meeting between both boards was held.

On April 8 of that year, the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran indicated that Mahan Air inaugurated a direct flight between Tehran and Caracas, as part of the close relationship between Iran and Venezuela.

At the beginning of February 2021, andhe president of Conviasa, Ramón Velásquez Araguayánreported that the airline’s plans included establishing routes to countries such as Russia, Iran and China, destinations that had already been mentioned previously but that had not yet entered into operations to date.

However, for March it was planned to activate the connection to Tehran, arguing at that time that “there is an important potential for passengers who want to know the tourist activity of Venezuela.”
