Convention responds to Minister Jackson: Vice President Gaspar Domínguez says that “linking the content of the Constitution to a Government is generalizing a reality”

A new flank of conflict opened the Government of President Gabriel Boric, after the minister of the Segpres, Giorgio Jackson affirmed that “with the current Constitution, many of our reforms could not be carried out”, such as the reform of the Health system .

What’s more: his statements were supported by the President himself: “What Minister Jackson says is something that is clearly evident and the same minister refers to events or events that happened, for example, during the government of President Bachelet “, he indicated.

Jackson’s statements -and therefore Boric’s- were answered by the Constitutional Convention, which is defining the last details of the final draft of the New Constitution that will be voted on in the exit plebiscite on September 4.

The person in charge of responding was the vice president, Gaspar Domínguez: “This Constitution is for the long term and linking the content of the Constitution to a Government is to generalize a reality, and a reality that should be for the next five or 10 governments.”

“I think that the necessary reforms that the health system needs cannot be carried out without a reform of the Constitution, that’s why I think this is fine, but this not only applies to this government but also to the following ones,” he said. the conventional in conversation with Radio Cooperative.

Along these lines, when asked if he agrees with demarcating the possible triumph of the constituent process in the exit plebiscite with the president’s program, Domínguez insisted that “they are separate things”, since “linking the content of the Constitution to a government is to generalize a reality, a reality that should be for the next five or 10 governments”.

“It does not seem reasonable to me to link the approval of the President with the work of the Convention,” adding that “one thing is the Government and the approval it has, and another is the Constitutional Convention. Personally, it does not seem reasonable to me to necessarily link one with the other”.

“Finally, in the Constitutional Convention, the majority of us who are there, do not belong to the Government of President Gabriel Boric, not even to the Broad Front. Although we know that President Gabriel Boric is closely linked to and very supportive of this process, not necessarily the people that are within the Convention represent the world of President Gabriel Boric,” he concluded.

Program “highly dependent”

At a press point held this Monday, the spokeswoman Camila Vallejo was asked about these statements, assuring that President Gabriel Boric’s program depends on what happens on September 4.

“The government program, its depth, also depends to a large extent on what happens on September 4,” he said.

“Without prejudice to that (…) We are going to continue working the next day, because our government continues and we have to continue pushing, whatever it may be, the commitments that we have established with the people of our country,” he added.
