Convention and international fair on Health begin in Havana

The first day of sessions of the IV Cuba-Health 2022 International Convention began this Tuesday with a keynote address on the challenges of the sector in the post-COVID-19 context given by Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda, head of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) of the island.

Faced with complex health issues that affect all countries, Portal Miranda expressed the aspiration that the event be a space to exchange, expand and deepen the debate that helps to find innovative solutions to new and old problems, as well as contributes to strengthen bonds of friendship and cooperation in accordance with a note posted on the website of the health agency.

“In the last three years, the world has experienced a complex scenario due to the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 and from Cuba we learned new ways of doing to adapt to the circumstances and move forward in order to protect the population, which showed that the social environment conditions us but does not determine us”, added the director.

In addition to this presentation, the day hosts a panel on health policies to respond to the Health Agenda until 2030, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), informs the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The agency highlights other spaces to discuss the 120 years of PAHO in Cuba, science and its role in the future of public health, as well as the challenges of noncommunicable diseases and population aging on the island.

The event on health issues was inaugurated this Monday at the Convention Center of the Cuban capital with the presence of the president Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudezwho gave a conference focused on the Government Management System, based on Science and Innovation (SGGCI) and its implications for health.

As part of the initial activities, before an audience of experts and delegates from 64 countries, they inaugurated the IV Exhibition of the National Health System, which collected experiences lived in recent years in the island’s medical sector, adds the ACN.

Cuba-Health 2022 will meet until next Friday the 21st under the motto “Universal Health, as part of the 2030 Health Agenda, in a post-COVID-19 context” and its participants will discuss the sector at the global and regional levels, says the publication.

Parallel to this event, the XV Fair Comercial Salud para Todos, which will run until October 20, with the participation of 118 companies and suppliers from 40 markets, along with 68 national entities, five hotel chains and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of the island, according to figures disclosed by the MINSAP.
