MIAMI, United States. — Residents of the municipality of Bauta, in the province of Artemisa, reported having suffered injuries and burns while cooking croquettes that were for sale in a private establishment.
One of the victims, Alie Bringas Delgado, indicated last Tuesday that the croquettes exploded in her hand and showed images of the injuries suffered.
“Hello, my friends from Bauta. I’m going to give you some advice: be careful when frying the croquettes that they sell behind the market on Martí Street, they exploded in my hand and I’ve been all burned for a week and I’m not getting better, “the woman wrote in the Facebook group People of Bauta.
Bringas Delgado assured that, although she did not suffer injuries to her face, a girl from the same town “burned her face and it was very serious.”
The complainant specified that she did not buy the croquettes in a state establishment, but in a private business.
“I must clarify that the business belongs to an individual named Luis, not the State. You have to talk to him so that he can explain what is happening with the preparation and quality of those croquettes”.
Days before, the user Niurka Victores had shared in the same group images of another woman from Bauta who had also suffered burns while cooking the croquettes.
“Citizens of Bauta, if you don’t want to end up like this, don’t buy any more croquettes behind the market. Now she will be marked for her whole life. And they don’t even pay him compensation for all the damage caused,” lamented Victores in his publication.
Given the food shortage in Cuba, croquettes have been one of the alternatives for the island’s population to make up for the lack of meat and other proteins. However, it is not the first time that incidents have been reported during the cooking of the product.
Last year, prodalone of the state companies that manufactures and distributes the product, assured that the explosions during cooking were due to “a common mistake when frying them.”
