The iMayor Pablo Caram raffled a call to the room because when that proposal was to be voted on, the nationalist mayors were not in the room and there were not enough to vote.
The Artigas Departmental Board met this Friday in an extraordinary session in the case of the official who received $93,979 for doing 196 overtime hours in December, and the councilors of the Broad Front and the Colorado Party of Artigas filed a joint complaint of irregularities. The official bench, meanwhile, rejected the criticism and there were no further explanations; everything is limited to waiting for the result of an investigation
“We hope that they would have accommodated the papers to give us the explanations that we believed essential and of course they did not give us any,” José González, mayor of the Broad Front, told The Observer, that he was disappointed by responses without clarifying information.
According to González, the National Party “tried to discuss what happened in the Broad Front government 13 years ago.”
“They wanted to bring up that at the time of the Broad Front there was so much overtime”he added.
Until Thursday, February 9The official continued working “she had neither resigned nor had she been firedbut in this month of January they did not pay him overtime ”, clarified the mayor.
Gonzáles maintains that in addition to the irregularities questions the link between the official and the general secretary of the Intendancy, Rodolfo Caram (they are a couple), who is also the cousin of the mayor, Pablo Caram.
The National Party provided information on the holidays that the employee worked (ten hours on holidays such as May 1 and August 25).
When the Colorado Party and the Broad Front proposed a call to the mayor to give explanations, the ruling party asked for an intermediate room and its representatives did not return. Due to lack of quorum, the meeting was adjourned.
The case
The political scandal occurred when transcending a extra payment of about 100 thousand pesos for special hours of the official who is a partner of the secretary general of the mayor’s office, Rodolfo Caram, the mayor’s first cousin.
He Mayor had reacted with discomfort in the first instancebut then he accepted the explanations given to him by the intern, and appeared at a press conference this week, trying to calm the inmate.
The general director of the Intendancy, Emiliano Soravilla, relativized the case and said that up to now there is only information collected by a publication and that as a result of that they ordered the instruction of an administrative investigation to establish or determine responsibilities. They are working on that, according to Soravilla, technicians from the Administration.
The opposition maintains that they want to buy time to hide the case.
“From the documents that we have analyzed, beyond the investigation, There is nothing to determine that there was an irregularity or a crime here. There is documentation that proves and supports the overtime done by this officialSoravilla said.
Regarding the relationship between the official and the Secretary General, the director general assured that “he is not the immediate superior” and added: “Human Resources of the Administration has a person in charge and reports to the General Directorate. The Secretary General cannot endorse overtime for any official.”
He Red Party mayor Daniel Argañaraz expressed that the press conference given by the departmental government was “a shame”.
While the Mayor’s Office awaits this “investigation” to find out if the official could have done that amount of overtime in a single month, the opposition insists on taking political or judicial measures.
