Controversy over the costs of Prince Harry and his wife's visit: how much money was spent

Last Sunday, August 18, the visit to Colombia of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, concluded in the city of Cali.

Following the activities in which Harry and his wife Meghan participated, Bogota, Cali and CartagenaVice President Francia Márquez welcomed the visit that “He left the doors open to work together for the benefit of young people, women and social causes”.

Through social networks, several users have criticized the visit taking into account a report from the British newspaper The Sunwhich estimates that the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Colombia cost around 8 billion Colombian pesos.

This amount included the security scheme, not counting the cost of tickets that were paid by the couple, who expressed interest in coming to Colombia.

Among the costs assumed by the Colombian government were the mobilization of the dukes within the country as well as food.

At the meeting in Cali, Vice President Francia Márquez took the opportunity to ask the Duke and Duchess and the Open Society Foundation to support her in initiatives that she is developing in different municipalities of the Colombian Pacific..

“We have created programs such as ‘Young Guardians of Nature’, which began with more than 1,200 members with sustainability issues, and ‘Water is Life’ with which we seek to bring drinking water to marginalized areas”said Vice President Márquez.

The ‘Leading and Productive Women Fund’ is also underway, a process to strengthen women’s economic autonomy, and ‘She Exports to Africa’, empowering 30 women from excluded territories.
