He Departmental Executive Committee of Paysandú of the Colorado Party expressed his “great disagreement” with Town meeting for frustrating the project to designate “Jorge Batlle” to a sector of the Carrasco International Airport and requested the “retraction” of the party led by Guido Manini Ríos.
In a statement issued this Wednesday, and sent to the Secretary General Julio Maria Sanguinettithe colorados point out that the project presented by senator German Coutinho was supported unanimously by the parties in the Senate Transportation Committee, but the lobbyists rejected it in plenary, something that “draws attention”since in the political system “agreements of this nature are understood and respected, given that tributes of this type that are proposed by each political party are always unanimously supported.”
“With this procedure, Cabildo Abierto, through its rejection of the proposal, managed to ensure that this very important and symbolic initiative, not only for our party but for the history of the country, was left without votes to be approved,” they added and considered that these actions “cause breaks in the political system everything, when what this type of project should lead to is to highlight our figures with respect, honor and a spirit of celebration”.
The proposal was to designate the airport’s passenger terminal as Jorge Batlle, leaving the airport as such under the current name that is Cesáreo L. Berisso (aviator who died in 1971).
In the statement, the colorados also expressed that the Guillermo Domenech’s statements leave “much to be desired”.
The senator had said that “they consider it bad policy to go around changing the names of streets or monuments”, something that they understand to be “absolutely fallacious.” “We believe that the Cabildo Abierto and its unfair justifications only refer to its military interests and nothing else.”
In turn, they ask to continue with the project, based on solid arguments “that there are and are left over in defense of Jorge Batlle” and urge that this issue be dealt with urgently by the National Executive Committee.
