So much has been the passion that this national team has awakened in the coffee fans, that many ask that the soccer players be rewarded for the good role they perform, leaving the name of the Nation high.
However, this desire of many has disappeared due to statements by the president of the Colombian Football Federation, Ramón Jesurún. The sports leader assured that the prizes awarded by the entity that governs soccer laws in Colombia “are only for professional soccer players and not amateurs”, as he cataloged the “super powerful” girls as they are already called for their talent and dedication within the playing field.
This was made clear in an interview he gave to several media outlets that questioned him about the evolution of women’s football in our country.
Regarding this discipline in Colombia, Jesurún stressed that worldwide women’s football has barely 15 or 20 years of evolution compared to men’s, which is more than 100 years old.
“People are very happy to say that it is not that we do not support, this is a process that is gradual and we must understand and that is what we are doing, but it is good that women’s soccer is being built in the country,” said the sports director.
Here are his statements that have generated controversy among Colombians:
The following are the comments of social network users about Jesurún’s controversial comment: «Machista, they have more than we know, they stood up for Colombian soccer, what the men did not do, this man must already resign in the federation, he has not done nothing”, “And the prizes that are won in this World Cup are also amateur, or silver if it is for the national team. We have a better level in women’s football than in men’s”, “this man even when these athletes are the ones to be rewarded, professionals earn too much and even undeservedly”, were some of the comments on social networks.
Federation said that there will be prizes
After the controversy unleashed in networks, the Colombian Football Federation came out to clarify that there will be prizes for the players but not in economic incentives.
In three points, the entity that governs football in Colombia accurate the details:
1. The regulations of the International Federation of Football Association, FIFA establish that the sub 17 and sub 20 categories are not absolute or major.
2. The award regulations established by the governing body for the U-17 World Cup determines in its article 47 and subsequent numerals the delivery of trophies, distinctions and medals and does not contemplate economic expenses in this category for both women and men.
3. However, as happened with the participation of Colombia in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup – Costa Rica 2022, in which FIFA for the reasons stated did not award money, the Colombian Football Federation – FCF, did. gave economic recognition to the players and will do the same with the soccer players participating in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup – India 2022.
