MIAMI, United States. — Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, head of the Ideological Department of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), recently assured that the island’s regime is in a position to wage battle on social networks to neutralize the subversive action of the enemies of the Revolution.
In an interview offered to the portal RebellionPolanco Fuentes explained that social networks constitute a scenario where the reality of countries like Cuba is manipulated and misrepresented.
“The capacity that we have to counteract this work of sapping, this work of undermining the human will, has to be much higher. We have to do like the Cuban independentistas, the mambises in the War of Independence, like the members of the Rebel Army in the Sierra Maestra: seize those weapons from our enemy,” said the Castro official.
According to Polanco, the Revolution must not only appropriate these “weapons” but also “learn to master them and use them for our own objectives.”
“We have to master the use of those tools. Denounce its rigged, manipulated use against the interests of our nations. We have to achieve greater technological sovereignty. We have to achieve international cooperation.”
The head of the Ideological Department of the PCC is also committed to strengthening the censorship apparatus against social networks, and not only in Cuba, but internationally.
“Among all those who today face the harmful impact of these technologies, we have to achieve international legislation that allows limiting the use of technologies for war and to generate confrontations between human groups and nations. There is already an extraordinary work by our people so that this information and communication technology is used in an exalting way, a different way from the one in which it has been designed and used by imperialism”, said the official.
Rogelio Polanco Fuentes became known at the beginning of the 2000s in the official space Round tablewhich he attended as Director of the newspaper rebel youth. Subsequently, he was for several years Ambassador of Cuba in Venezuela and rector of the Raúl Roa García Higher Institute of International Relations until April 2021.
