Evaluation of the carnival was made by the Mayor thinking about improving
Although the final balance will surely be made in the coming days, the organization of Carnival 2026 considers that the Momo celebration was carried out with complete success.
The Mayor of Cerro Largo carried out a primary evaluation of the activity centered on Aparicio Saravia during 5 nights of the previous week.
“It’s a big mix of feelings. On the one hand, nervousness because a lot of people were risking a lot of things and, on the other, there’s personal enjoyment because I like the carnival. Then there’s the great challenge of not letting down the people in this department.” express Christian Morel.
“We have had a separate condiment which is the weather, which was very good, because no matter how hard we try, if the weather is not good, we don’t make any progress” he stated.
“I never imagined that the carnival would mobilize so much” admitted in an interview with THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL. “First, I never imagined that the investment would be so large in terms of money, but then everything developed as I dreamed.”
The Mayor said he felt satisfied at having been able to pay what was agreed to to the groups even before the carnival began. “When the first one came out on the first Saturday and when the last one came out on the final Saturday, everything was paid for. The carnival members were able to show all their work, a product of what a ruler must do, which is to pay on time and in the manner to be able to demand.” he pointed out. “It didn’t mean that I was in a position to demand, but I was in a position to ask people for a great commitment, which was not necessary because I saw that they did it” he added.
“One thing is clear, when you do what you like, things turn out well, and here Fabián Martínez likes the carnival, he is a person who lives it from the inside and left his soul to make this a great party” Morel highlighted.
THINKING ABOUT IMPROVEMENT
He maintained that it was a great challenge and that the fact of having dedicated one night to the Samba Schools and another to Candombe will be evaluated in the coming days.
“Of all the nights, these two were the ones that generated the greatest expectations in me” he assured.
“If corrections have to be made, they will be made and if it has to be strengthened, it will be strengthened” express.
Christian Morel announced that from June or July he will begin contacts with the Samba Schools’ References to ensure that they continue to grow. “We believe that they are prepared to put on a great show like the one they did these days. That’s why I think we have to strengthen them” said.
ONLY FIGURES LINKED TO THE ARTISTIC WORLD
“Next year I want the Municipality to have two cars of its own for the figures, so that they parade so that people who don’t know them know them because in some cases they go unnoticed” said the Communal Chief of Cerro Largo.
He announced that during his Administration only prominent personalities from the artistic world will participate in the Melo carnival. “We invested a significant amount of money – about 2 Million Pesos – in the singers who came. In the political campaign, what people asked me most was that we not bring Argentine or Uruguayan figures that had no relation to the show to parade” he remembered. “People considered that it was not attractive to see a journalist parading on top of a car or a cook on top of a car. That was what people thought. In that we believe that we have responded and we have lived up to what they asked of us” Christian Morel closed.
