The Contemporary Dance Company of Cuba (DCC) will begin a tour of Europe next week with a diverse program that combines the work of national and foreign choreographers.
The tour will start in France. The group directed by Miguel Iglesias will be from November 22 to 27 at the Casa de la Danza in Lyon and will then travel to Switzerland and Germany.
One of the pieces that they will offer will be ethnocentric motherland, by Cuban George Céspedes, with passages from the music of the Van Van, in which the dancers wear guayaberas and other markers of national identity.
Also on the program, among others, is the work Consecrationby the French Chistophe Beránger and Jonathan Pranlas-Descours, closely linked to great Cuban musicians such as Alejandro García Caturla and Amadeo Roldán.
Founded by maestro Ramiro Guerra, at 63 DCC continues to bet on the roots of classical dance and popular culture of African origin, a fusion through which it was able to create an unmistakable style.
Considered the nurturing mother of Cuban dance companies, DCC has toured more than 90 countries in America, Europe, Asia and Africa, as well as presentations at the most prestigious world festivals.
