Consumption in supermarkets and supermarkets had a 6% drop and 5% turnover in the first eleven months of 2021 compared to 2020, according to him consumption monitor by Scanntech.
The analysis focuses on consumption and price trends in Scanntech’s customer universe, covering 1,500 points of sale throughout Uruguay over the 6,000 it manages, with focus on independent supermarkets and self-services, which represent near the 90% of the turnover of that channel.
The report shows a sharp drop in consumption so far this year (-6%) and growth in turnover (+ 5%), with January as the only stable month of the year. As of February, all months show a contraction in consumption compared to 2020.
The fall in November 2021 is of 4% compared to the same month of the previous year, with negative variations in all product families.

The products that grew the most in November were energizers, frozen desserts, nuggets, quickies and sports drinks while those that registered the greatest falls were the gel alcohol, legumes, liquid alcohol, vegetable milks, and cornstarch.
The variations by zone show important falls in Maldonado (-8%) and Montevideo (-8%).

According to Scanntech, in the analysis of the situation by product family in the accumulated of the year, falls are observed in all cases and although there are no major differences, Cleanliness shows the least shrinkage.

The average purchase ticket in November was from $ 322, this is a 4% above its value in the same month of 2020.

Scanntech highlights that while the average price increase since November 2020 was, in all products, of 9%, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) did 7.9%.
