The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) decided to keep the Green Flag, less costly in February, for the collection of electricity supply by the National Interconnected System (SIN). It will be the third consecutive time in which the monthly fare will not be added.
The color of the decided month by month reflects the variation in energy generation costs measured by the National Electric System Operator (ONS), which defines the best power generation strategy to meet demand.
In the rainy months in Brazil, such as November, December and January, the reservoirs of hydroelectric plants reach higher volume, which does not require energy generation by more expensive thermoelectric plants – as well as pollutants because of the use of fossil fuel.
The flag system, created in 2015, acts as a traffic signal and informs the consumer the need for light savings due to price variation for electricity production.
