The economic studies center Fedesarrollo presented the results of its Consumer Opinion Survey (EOC) for September, the month in which the Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) registered a balance of –11.5%, which implied a fall of 9.1 percentage points (pps) compared to the previous month.
(See: How has the behavior of consumption in Colombia been?).
According to Fedesarrollo, this drop in consumer confidence was due to a setback in its two components. First of all, for a reduction of 14.5 pps in the Consumer Expectations Index and also due to a decrease of 0.9 pps in the Index of Economic Conditions.
Fedesarrollo highlighted that, when comparing the results of the third quarter of 2022 with those of the second quarter, there is a increase in consumers’ assessment of the country’s situation, but a fall is also perceived in the assessment of the situation of their homes and in the willingness to buy durable goods.

In September, the ICC was reduced in all socioeconomic levels. For consumers at a high level it is -30.3%; for those of medium level, in -10.1%; and for those in the lowest category it was -11.1%. At the same time, the index decreased in all the cities surveyed, except in Barranquilla.
Relative to August, the willingness to buy durable goods increased, while the willingness to buy a home decreased, and the intention to buy vehicles also decreased.
