The Plenary of the Congress of the republic approved this Thursday to reduce the period of attention to consumer complaints to a maximum of seven business days.
The measure, approved with 112 votes in favor, zero against and zero abstentions; establishes the modification of Law 29571, Consumer Protection and Defense Code, reducing the time for handling consumer complaints.
On the other hand, this rule only allows companies a single extension of the term for three business days.
Current regulations give businesses 30 calendar days to respond to consumer complaints. In addition, it empowers them to extend this term for an additional 30 days.
The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) has a period of 30 calendar days to adapt the amendments to the law.
