Consultation occurs in Quintana Roo, Hidalgo and Aguascalientes without serious incidents

The electoral body announced that, while in the basic and adjoining polling stations in the state there was a participation that ranged between low and moderate, in the four special ones there was a significant influx, where 7 thousand 106 people voted.

In the tours carried out by Expansion the almost null participation of young people under 30 years of age was verified, except in the downtown area of Cancun; It was middle-aged adults and older adults who attended the democratic appointment.

Mexico experienced an unprecedented election day.

“I came to exercise a civic right. It didn’t happen to young people or they don’t remember, but I had to grow up with the PRI, without democracy. I wanted the PRI to come out, that’s why I’m here now, in defense of democracy,” said Javier Ponce, 51, in line at the special booth located on Calle 12 norte, in Playa del Carmen.

In Quintana Roo, the recall exercise, the first of its kind in the country, also became an endorsement of the Mayan Train, the tourist military battalion and other federal programs.

“What I know is that the Mayan Train is going to bring a lot of development to the southeast. And it is the first time that a president has thrown himself on the back with a megaproject like this, that is, a large, important project,” said Citlalli Mendoza, 35, before voting at the special polling place in Playa del Carmen, located in North 12th Street.

The support for the project is given in a controversial context, caused by the deforestation that is taking place in Section 5, in Playa del Carmen. And it is that, about 10 kilometers from the center of the tourist destination, on the outskirts of the urban area and what is contemplated in the Urban Development Program of Playa del Carmen, the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (FONATUR) began at the end of February to the clearing of vegetation where the train route will run. And it did so without authorization in terms of environmental impact or change of land use in forest land.

revocation-mandate
The vote occurred without incident in Quintana Roo.

At that time they were just under two linear kilometers by almost 24 meters wide, but now they add up to 40 devastated kilometers, according to calculations by members of the Sélvame del Tren organization.

Despite this, citizens who participated this Sunday in the consultation on the revocation of the mandate expressed their support for the megaproject.

“Yes, I support it, but I think it should comply with what the law (General Ecological Balance) establishes,” said Yaressy Cruz in the same box.

Almost all the voters consulted by the media replied the speech; all workers in the tourism and construction sectors.

Another of the topics of conversation in the lines of the boxes was security. On November 17, López Obrador visited Quintana Roo, in order to supervise the progress of the Mayan Train and announce a new tourist battalion of 1,500 elements in Tulum to combat the growing insecurity in the northern part of the entity, an action that voters they approved.
