Consulate of Venezuela opened its doors in Cúcuta, but its services are waiting

Migration Colombia registers 2.4 million Venezuelans in its territory, so what each Venezuelan consulate in Colombia will attend to will be able to attend to a huge number of Venezuelans who were left homeless after the rupture of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2019

The Venezuelan consulate in Cúcuta opened its doors to the general public this Friday, April 28, in the morning.

Consulate officials explained that the system is still being installed and specialized personnel for consular services are being incorporated, so that, despite opening the doors, there is still no operation for the public.

Any Venezuelan who needs to go to the consulate can do so, since the available personnel offer advice. However, the procedures related to passports, visas, identity cards and apostilles will have to wait for regular operations to resume.

The office is located on Camilo Daza avenue, in the city of Cúcuta, belonging to the Norte de Santander department, which forms a border with the Venezuelan state of Táchira.

The consul general in commission, Sergio Arias, raised the flag when opening the doors and formalized the reactivation of the offices, despite the absences of the service.

William Gomez, a border affairs analyst, explained to The nation that the reactivation of consular services is vital for Venezuelans living in Colombia.

“This allows Venezuelan couples, for example, whose child was born in Cúcuta, Colombia, to register him and give him his identity from this consular office,” he explained.

In the same way, through the consulate, student, sports, work visas and any type of permit required to carry out activities in Colombia are delivered.

Migration Colombia registers 2.4 million Venezuelans in its territory, so the consular services —reactivated thanks to the rapprochement between the governments of Gustavo Petro and Nicolás Maduro— will attend to a huge number of Venezuelans who were left homeless after the break in diplomatic relations in 2019.
