Given the inflationary conditions of construction supplies, they asked the government to intervene and take measures to prevent the collapse of the sector.
Speaking to the media in Santiago, engineer Mario Bonilla, from the construction company Bonilla & Asociados, explained that they represent an important line in the area of housing solutions, for the upper-middle class population, where their works also generate a significant number of jobs.
“Well, the rises in the prices of construction materials, such as steel, cement, pipes, wires, ceramics, among others, and if the upward trend continues, we will end up completely paralyzing the construction sector“, accurate.
Bonilla stressed that the economy is strengthened with the development of construction projects, generating, in addition to the purchase of materials in stores, jobs that stimulate local development, however they are threatened, he affirms, by the constant increases in the products of the construction industry. low-cost housing.
They asked the government to establish lines of communication with the construction sector.
“We urge you to meet with the Association of Home Builders and Promoters (APROCOVI) and the Association of Home Builders and Promoters of Cibao (APROCOVICI), to find some kind of solution, because otherwise most of the small construction companies they will be bankrupted,” he stressed.
They asked the government to act as quickly as possible by adopting measures such as lowering taxes, as well as for the state to import these materials or authorize small builders to do so.
The businessman said that some small builders have already left the market, due to the situation of the increase in operating costs.
