The construction of the new passenger terminal at the Jorge Chávez International Airport is 20% complete, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said on Tuesday ().

The head of the MTC, Richard Tineo Quispe, who supervised the project that includes the construction of a new and unique passenger terminal, the second runway and a new control tower, said that this work has a great impact on job creation. of work.

This new infrastructure will generate jobs, boost the country’s economy and position us as one of the most important connection points in the entire region.”, expressed Tineo.

During the visit, it was reported that the civil works of the second runway and the new control tower are 100% complete and are expected to come into operation in January 2023. In the case of the passenger terminal, this should be completed in January 2025.

This project will have the capacity to serve around 35 million passengers a year.

The total area of ​​the airport is 900 hectares, where two landing strips will operate simultaneously, which will allow two landings to be made per minute.

In addition, the new tower will have 10 positions for air traffic control. This will make it possible to carry out up to 80 air operations per hour.
