Construction of fire station announced in Enriquillo, Barahona

BARAHONA.- The Haina Electricity Generating Company (EGE Haina), together with the Municipal Council of Enriquillo, formally began the construction work of a new and modern station for the fire department of the municipality of Enriquillo, on the coast of this province,

In a statement, the company states that the event was headed by Ginny Taulé and Ramón Then, senior director of Communications and Sustainability, and manager of the southern zone plants, respectively, of EGE Haina; Heriberto Méndez, municipal mayor of Enriquillo; Manuel Enrique Ramón Pérez, mayor of the Enriquillo fire department, and Sara Viñas and Raymond Soñé, representing Laka Group, the contractor company in charge of executing the work.

He points out that, during the act, Ginny Taulé highlighted the company’s commitment to contribute to the development of the localities where it operates through the construction of community infrastructures and sustained support for relief agencies, among other lines of action.

“We are pleased to announce the start of this work donated by EGE Haina to the municipality of Enriquillo. We trust that this modern and functional barracks will contribute to the efficiency of the Enriquillo fire department, which performs a vitally important task in favor of the safety of citizens”, he said.

For Mayor Heriberto Núñez, the work to be carried out represents a valuable contribution to the municipality of Enriquillo, which currently has more than 15,000 inhabitants. “Each and every one of them, together with the firefighters, deserve a modern barracks, with the necessary facilities that allow them to provide a preventive and assistance service to the population in the face of possible accidents. This contribution from EGE Haina will positively change the way things are done here”, he highlighted.

On his side, Colonel Rafael Sabino, mayor of the Enriquillo fire department, expressed his satisfaction at seeing the dream of many years begin. “Finally we will have a decent station for our fire department, in which we will continue to offer a first class service, as always, even under the precarious conditions in which we operated.

Thanks to this donation, we will soon have a totally new space”, he stated, highlighting the commitment sustained by EGE Haina in favor of this institution and the development of Enriquillo.

With an investment of over eleven million pesos, the new building will be built on the land where the previous barracks used to function. The work will be completed early next year and will be equipped with all the facilities and areas necessary for the proper performance of the activities of the relief organization and its network of volunteers. It will have a hangar for a pump truck, offices for officers, community service, operations, a tool and equipment store, a kitchen, a dining room, staff rooms, bathrooms, laundry rooms and flagpoles.

The ceremony was also attended by members of the Municipal Council, the National Union of Firefighters, community leaders, the media and representatives of EGE Haina.

With this initiative, the company continues to contribute to the communities where it operates, in various areas such as education, health, income generation, sports, culture, community infrastructure and support for relief agencies.
