Pedro Castillo will continue in prison. The TC declared the former president’s request inadmissible after his coup attempt on December 7, 2022.
The Constitutional Court (TC) rejected the appeal presented by the former president Pedro Castillowho sought his freedom after his attempted coup d’état on December 7, 2022. Castillo Terrones has been investigated for the alleged crime of rebellion for which the Prosecutor’s Office has requested a 34-year prison sentence.
Currently, the former president is being held in the Barbadillo prison, where he is serving 36 months of preventive detention.
The decision was made in a Plenary Jurisdictional session by judges Pacheco Zerga, Domínguez Haro, Morales Saravia, Monteagudo Valdez, Ochoa Cardich and Hernández Chávez. It should be noted that Gutiérrez Ticse cast a singular vote.
