Constituent Assembly: they report marches for and against the referendum in the Center of Lima | PHOTOS

Citizen groups, political groups and congressmen have been participating in a march against the , in the Center of Lima. As it is recalled, the Constitution Commission of the Congress shelved the constitutional reform project, prepared by the Executive, to submit to a referendum the call to draft a new Constitution.

The protesters gathered from 3:00 pm this Saturday, May 7, in the vicinity of the Campo de Marte. Then, they advanced along Guzmán Blanco Avenue and headed in front of the Judicial Branch.

Despite the fact that the final route of this march was not previously traced, a police contingent has been supporting the shelter. No incident of violence was reported and it continues its journey as normal.

Citizen groups together with some politicians march against the constituent assembly.

Among the political figures who attended the mobilization were congresswomen Norma Yarrow and Adriana Tudela, constitutionalist Lucas Ghersi, and former presidential candidate Lourdes Flores Nano.

The population that attended the march was against a new Constitution and demanded the resignation of the president, Pedro Castillo. They also called for new elections.

Second march in favor

On the other hand, and not so far from the first mobilization, various social organizations have been gathering that are in favor of a constituent assembly in search of a new constitution.

This protest measure has been supported by the congressmen of Peru Libre, Guido Bellido and Waldemar Cerrón. The meeting point was established in the Plaza San Martín and will move to the Paseo de los Héroes Navales.

Law project 1840 archived

With 11 votes in favor and 6 against, the Constitution Commission shelved Bill 1840, which proposes the constitutional reform to authorize the convening of a constituent assembly to be submitted to a referendum to draft a new Constitution.

The 11 congressmen who voted in favor of the archive decree They are: Juárez, Tudela, Aguinaga, Aragón, Cavero, Elera, Morante, Moyano, Muñante, Soto and Salhuana. They voted against: Balcázar, Bellido, Cerrón, Cutipa, Quito and Mercado.
