Conversations between INAC and IATA could precede agreements for international airlines to start operating in Venezuela, according to information handled by Conseturismo
A plane from the Colombian airline Satena landed at the Simón Bolívar International Airport, in Maiquetía, last Wednesday, November 9, which was a milestone for the reestablishment of relations between Colombia and Venezuela, but could also open the doors for other countries. .
The Superior Council of Tourism of Venezuela considers that the reception of a Colombian flight could be the first step that leads to the reactivation of the air connection with various countries, which could represent a resurgence of receptive tourism.
“We in the tourism sector are very pleased that the reactivation of flights is materializing again. We hope that more lines will be incorporated soon,” said the president of Conseturismo, Leudo González, in statements reviewed by Fedecamaras Radio.
The hopes of Conseturismo are not empty. González informed that he knew of conversations between the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), because there are international airlines interested in returning to Venezuela.
“We learned of other international airlines that are interested in returning to Venezuela, the fact that the authorities are in talks are positive signs,” he said.
Even without taking into account more countries and connections, the reactivation of the Caracas-Bogotá route already gives hope to national tourism, which is preparing to close the year with a positive percentage of hotel occupancy.
“The year 2022 is closing with excellent signs, with great positivism, with responsible optimism. We hope to end with occupations that exceed 40% on average, with encouraging figures,” he added.

González recalled that Venezuelan tourism has various obstacles, among which regional competitiveness stands out, since Venezuela is located in a geographical area with many popular destinations. In addition, the country has lagged behind in terms of policies that encourage tourism, while neighbors such as Colombia have improved in this regard.
