Tiziana Polesel recalled that since December, the commercial and services sector “reported that it had been lower in terms of units than December of the previous year”
Tiziana Polesel, president of the National Council of Commerce and Services (Consecomercio), assured this Monday, February 6 that so far this year food consumption alone has dropped 17% because “of the exchange differential that did not help at the end of the year, the inflationary issue and problems with fuel outside of Caracas.”
In an interview granted this Monday, March 6 to Union Radio, Polesel said that according to the reports from the different chambers affiliated with Consecomercio, consumption has marked a downward trend, resulting in a average between 25% and 35% less in sales in the first months of this 2023.
The president of Consecomercio also attributed to the drop in consumption the implementation of the Tax on Large Financial Transactions (IGTF)which “one sees as 3%, but in a cascading tax that for the final consumer translated more or less between 12% and 14% increase in products,” he stressed.

Several weeks ago, Polesel also detailed that the economic recovery registered in the commercial sector in 2022 began to recede in December, for which reason commerce reported 15% less throughout the country in terms of units than what they sold in December 2021.
He explained that the union is looking for formulas to not close Santamarías, “we are going to continue working, looking for options so that the consumer can choose,” he stressed.
