“We were going to be decorated in a public ceremony in a Congress environment, but he told us ‘guys, this has a cost’. Where has it been seen that an honoree who is recognized by the State, one has to buy his medal?” questioned César Meyer, the complainant, a retired senior non-commissioned officer, in statements to Panorama.
Meyer showed a medal, which accompanies the recognition. However, he maintained that “each of the honorees has to buy it.”
In a chat broadcast by the journalistic program, the following message is read: “Good afternoon, dear friends. I have just updated the members of this chat who will participate in the next recognition ceremony in the Congress of the Republic, represented by Congresswoman Yorel Kira Alcarraz Agüero (…) Those who wish to participate in the ceremony, please deposit the sum of S/160.”
The amount would cover the delivery of ceremony expenses, medal, pin, folder and lunch. However, the food was intended for only one person, If they wanted to include a guest, they had to pay an additional S/50.
According to Panorama, the person in charge of organizing this type of event would be retired commander Isaac Ferro, Alcarraz’s collaborator. They looked for the legislator’s version, but did not get a response.
