This Thursday the plenary session of the congress approved the censorship of the Minister of Labor, Betssy Chavez, with 71 votes in favor, only 28 against and 12 abstentions. The still member of the ministerial cabinet must leave office and President Pedro Castillo must accept her resignation in the next 72 hours.
After the decision taken by the majority of Parliament, legislators from various benches spoke about it.
One of the first was the parliamentarian William Bermejo (Perú Democrático), who suggested that the votes in favor of some of his colleagues from Peru Libre obeyed the orders of Vladimir Cerrón.
“Today we have to say that we must deeply regret the censorship of Minister Betssy Chávez because they say that when there are deaths, the buzzards appear. There are already people hanging around the Government Palace who show why the vote of a sector, which has voted together with the vacators and those who intend to carry out a parliamentary coup to censor a minister”, he told the press.
The spokesman for the Alianza para el Progreso (APP) caucus, Eduardo Salhuanapointed out that from his group they consider that Chávez Chino did deserve to be censored for the air traffic controllers’ strike during Holy Week.
“(Did the Minister of Labor deserve to be censored?) I think so, at APP we have that conviction mainly for not having assumed a much more leading role, much more proactive and avoiding the air traffic controllers’ strike that generated a totally unfavorable impact on the tourism sector”, he maintained in dialogue with RPP
Katy Ugarte (Bloc Magisterial) stated that the decision approved by the plenary session of Congress this Thursday was arbitrary, since it assured that “political and personal situations are being seen that harm anyone who assumes a political position or a position of trust”.
the legislator Carol Walls (Popular Action) pointed out that his bench had already announced that he was going to vote in favor of censorship, for which he clarified that it was a management issue and not something personal. “This is not a matter of going against people, but rather a management issue. The congresswoman and minister, at the time, has technical and political responsibility”, said.
In addition, Alexander Aguinaga (Popular Force) explained that the censorship against Betssy Chavez It was based on the air traffic controllers’ strike during Holy Week.
“Today Congress has censured the Minister of Labor as a result of what we have already stated in plenary. When one assumes a ministerial portfolio he knows that he is exposed to political control. What happened at Easter when the air traffic controllers’ strike was declared admissible was to generate a loss of S/ 800 million”, he expressed.
