The president of the Agricultural Commission of the Congress of the Republic, Vivian Olivos (Popular Force), announced that they will summon the new head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Andrés Alencastre, to appear before their working group on Tuesday, June 14.
In dialogue with El Comercio, the parliamentarian pointed out that on Tuesday, June 7, they will send the summons to the new member of the ministerial cabinet with the aim of having him go to the Legislative so that report on the measures to be implemented, in the short term, to deal with the fertilizer crisis and the food crisis.
Olivos also assured that the new head of the Midagri he does not have the necessary experience in the agrarian sector, since he said that he has worked on regionalization processes, but asserted that this is not enough.
“The biggest concern is that he does not have much experience in the agricultural sector, he has worked on regionalization processes that, although they sometimes have a territorial approach, (but) that is not enough. experience to manage a sector that has been institutionally destroyed by its predecessors”, he stated.
New Minister of Agriculture
Andres Alencastre was sworn in as the new Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation this Monday, June 6, replacing Javier Arcewho resigned from the post last Sunday.
Alencastre is an economist from the La Molina National Agrarian University and has experience in environmental management, social conflict management around extractive activities, land planning, water use, development planning, among others.
In addition, he was part of the technical team of Peru Libre in the second electoral round of 2021. He was also the one who prepared the chapter on agrarian development issues in the government plan that said party presented during the aforementioned electoral campaign.
