Santo Domingo.- Deputy Orlando Salvador Jorge Villegas submitted a draft resolution in which he requests the National Statistics Office (ONE) to include items in the next National Population and Housing Census, in order to quantify what percentage of the national population He has physical and cognitive disabilities, and neurodiversity conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Asperger syndrome, and Tourette syndrome.
In this sense, Jorge Villegas suggests including the age at which they received this diagnosis formally, by age range, gender, educational level, economic and employment status, as well as by ability or ease of access to medical care, diagnosis, therapies and treatment.
It proposes that it be included in addition to the monthly estimate of medical and treatment expenses that a patient with the conditions described above could have, and if they receive any assistance from the State to be able to cope with said condition.
Jorge Villegas stated that “it is important to obtain data on people with some type of disability in order to focus efforts on public health for this population of the Dominican Republic.”
