Even so, the neighborhood leaders agreed to dialogue with the high authorities, however, the Housing representative did not grant the main citizen request: the departure of the water supply company in January.
This caused discomfort among the citizens, who broke off the dialogue and started a new protest. “We have not reached any agreement with the State because the vice minister tells us that the OTASS will make its assessment in February and March (…). The elections are coming in April. We have asked him to retire in January and he has told us that he is not within his powers. So the vice minister has come here to go sightseeing,” exclaimed a neighborhood leader.
The working group, developed in the Provincial Municipality of Nasca, was made up of representatives of the Ministry of Housing, SUNASS and OTASS, neighborhood leaders and municipal authorities. According to what was stated by the Deputy Minister of Housing, the permanence of OTASS is conditional on the financial situation of the water provider company (EMAPAVIGSSA), so they will not allow its immediate withdrawal.
The citizen request was supported by the mayor of Vista Alegre, Roger Sarmiento, who expressed his discomfort over an excessive charge for water service. “The concern and need of my people must be addressed. They have knocked on doors, a delegation has traveled to Lima, but they have not had a favorable response. We pay between S/48.50 and S/50.60 which, compared to other districts, is a lot,” he said.
“Get out, traitor”
After the end of the work table, Congressman Jorge Marticorena was booed by the citizens, who called him a “traitor” and asked him to “get out.” Between claims he was protected by the PNP towards his vehicle to leave the scene.
When interviewed by a local journalist, the parliamentarian assured that he is on the side of the population and that OTASS will leave.
