The Control Commission of the Congress of the Republic He chose this morning, unanimously, the congressman for popular action (AP), Elvis Vergaraas president of said working group. Next to him will be part of the Commission’s directive, the parliamentarians Carlos Zeballos (Popular Democratic Block) and Juan Burgos (Podemos Peru), who will occupy the positions of vice president and secretary respectively.
About Vergara, a constitutional complaint filed last July by the Prosecutor’s Office for the alleged crimes of criminal organization, influence traffic and aggravated collusion weighs.
The measure extends to another 24 congressmen from different parliamentary groups, several of them also members of Popular Action such as Juan Mori, Ilich López, Raúl Doroteo and Wilson Soto, among others.
According to the complaint, all of them together with some ministers of state of the coup government Pedro Castillo would have participated under the command of the former president in an alleged criminal organization aimed at negotiating congressional votes in exchange for directing tenders and public hiring in the Ministries of Transport and Communications; Housing, construction and sanitation; and production.
Also in public bodies such as the National Superintendence of Migration, the National Police and the National Ports Company.
In his first intervention before his colleagues, Vergara said that Parliament must achieve “that the citizenship recovers confidence” in that state’s power and for this, he said, a work “without doing show” must be done and without using the institution as “political weapon.”
