Congressman Araya does not rule out that the Republican Party resort to the TC for the Government's alternative project on the Pardon Law

The Republican Party deputy, Christian Arayareferred to the parallel project of the Government of President Gabriel Boric of Pardon Law, noting that as a bench they do not rule out going to the Constitutional Court (TC).

The controversy began when the Segpres minister, Giorgio Jackson, pointed out in Radio Cooperative that they are looking for alternatives to the pardon bill as they do not have the necessary votes in the Senate.

Among the ruling parliamentarians, there is no consensus on the initiative, since some point out that there should be certain changes for it to be approved in the room.

One of the positions is that of the parliamentarian and president of the Human Rights Commission of the Senate, Gaston Saavedra (PS), who stressed that amnesty should exist only for people who were tried for ideological issues or political commitments during the social outbreak.

“All those who committed acts of violence and who attacked private property, participated in looting (…) should not be subject to this benefit, I believe that this is the main agreement that the political forces that are in the Senate require to give green light for this project,” said the senator, in Radio Bio Bio.

Meanwhile, the deputy of the broad front, Lorraine Friesstated that all those arrested during the social outbreak should be pardoned.

“It is not going to be the solution that we all want, because we have limitations in parliament to vote on it, and I would have been in favor of all the people who are in preventive detention, formalized for common crimes in a political context, in a limited time as is the Social Outburst, all of them should, let’s say, be amnestied,” added the legislator in the same medium.

The Republican Party caucus is one of the parties that is against the bill. The deputy, Cristián Araya, warned that they do not rule out incurring the TC if necessary.

“As a Republican caucus we will categorically reject this bill, and if necessary we will go to the Constitutional Court to defend justice. We are with the victims, and not with the perpetrators,” said Araya.

The alternative route proposed by Minister Jackson will be presented between this week and the following week, as announced by the head of Segpres himself.
