“That the right appeals to the polls, to delegitimize the Constituent Assembly, only shows its desperation. The process is not going to stop or change because Congress archives PL 1840, nor because of its media campaign. The people have already decided on the new Constitution, they fear that”, he wrote on his Twitter account.
This proposal made by the President of the Republic, peter castle, was put on the agenda of the Constitution Commission for Tuesday, May 3. The parliamentary working group set the session to see the issue to start at 9:30 am
Likewise, the President of the Council of Ministers, Hannibal Torreswill have to go before this commission to support the bill that seeks to consult the citizens and convene a Constituent Assembly.
Bill
The bill of the Executive for a new Magna Carta seeks to modify article 207 of the Constitution and include in the municipal elections in October a special ballot with the following question: Do you approve the convocation of a Constituent Assembly in charge of preparing a new Political Constitution?, with the alternatives: “Yes or no”.
The official letter, signed by President Castillo and the head of the Cabinet, Aníbal Torres, indicates that “said referendum process will be autonomous and independent of the electoral process convened by Supreme Decree No. 001-2022-PCM” Y “does not modify any rule” of said elections.
