Tarija’s royalties will be reduced in 2023 due to the securitization of income from the sale of natural gas, included in the General State Budget (PGE), warned the CC deputy, José Luis Porcel.
The legislator said that this region contributes with more than 60% of natural gas production for exports.
“We still don’t know how much royalties will decrease if future flows from sales are securitized. The PGE plans to request payment in advance and with that money they plan to do the exploration, 15 years ago no new reserves were discovered and now less in the coming years,” he said.
Tarija is the main producer of natural gas with 54.50% and then there are Santa Cruz with 38.64%, Chuquisaca with 5.55% and Cochabamba with 1.31%.
The deputy considered that Bolivia needs a new Hydrocarbons Law to attract foreign investment and should be the priority for the Government next year.
“They don’t have money for exploration and international credibility for companies to come. That is why they included the securitization of the income from the sale of natural gas in the 2023 budget,” Porcel said.
The parliamentarians of the Comunidad Ciudadana de Tarija bench observed this financial mechanism during the debate on the draft of the General State Budget (PGE) in the Chamber of Deputies.
