The Congressional Oversight Commission is evaluating summoning the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcio, to report on the meetings held by the president of the republic José Jerí with the Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang.
The summons to the head of the Interior will be put to a vote this Monday the 26th within the framework of a blended session convened by the president of the aforementioned working group Elvis Vergara.
The proposal of the Popular Action legislator responds to Tiburcio’s participation in the dinner that Jerí had with the Chinese businessman at a chifa in the San Borja district on December 26.
It was the president himself who revealed the minister’s attendance. “After talking and coordinating, like every day, and walking around Lima with Minister Tiburcio and my escort, I invited them to dinner,” he stated days ago.
For his part, Tiburcio briefly commented last Thursday: “We were there at approximately 10 o’clock at his invitation to have a dinner where this businessman was with two other people who were part of those who waited on the table.”
Furthermore, he denied having committed any irregular act, and maintained that if that had been the case, he would have made his position available. He did not respond, however, when asked about the possibility of him appearing in other videos of meetings between the head of state and Yang.
In the session – which has been convened for 2 in the afternoon on a blended basis -, the head of the Oversight Commission, Elvis Vergara, will also put to a vote his proposal to invite the Minister of Energy and Mines, Luis Enrique Bravo de la Cruz.
In this case, it was reported, it is planned to request from the head of Minem all the information on the current situation of the Pachachaca 2 hydroelectric plant project that was awarded to the company Hidroeléctrica América SAC, owned precisely by Zhihua Yang.
This is a concession granted to the Chinese businessman’s company in order to generate electricity with renewable energy resources in the provinces of Andahuaylas and Abancay in the Apurímac region.
