Congress will debate the disqualification of Mirtha Vásquez

The Permanent Commission of the Congress will meet this Monday, December 29, and will debate the complaint against the former prime minister Mirtha Vasquez, that intends to disqualify her for 10 years.

The case has been taken up amid Mirtha Vásquez’s announcement that she will run for the Senate for Alfonso López Chau’s Ahora Nación party.

“On the eve of Christmas, I found out on social media that I have been summoned to the Permanent Commission, where an accusation against me will be addressed, without having formally notified me. In an act of political persecution, they seek to prevent my right to be elected in Congress,” she said on social media.

The complaint against Mirtha Vásquez maintains that the then congresswoman, as president of Parliament, would have approved increases in salaries and personnel appointments without complying with the established regulatory procedures.

The report details that these decisions, supposedly taken a few days before the end of his term as head of the Legislature, did not have the consultation or prior approval of the Congressional Board of Directors. Due to this omission, the former premier would have committed the crimes of incompatible negotiation or improper use of the position.
