The institutions that signed the Pact for Quality Education urged Congress to archive the law that undermines meritocracy in the Teaching Career.
This statement was sent after the central government observed the Congress initiative that proposes the automatic appointment of teachers.
“We call on the Congress of the Republic to reconsider and not promote the approval of this harmful rule through insistence,” said the 31 private trade union institutions, business associations and private organizations linked to education that signed the pact.

The proposal of the Parliament, they said, “represents a serious damage to the Teachers’ Reform, based on the recognition of the merit and capacity of teachers.”
“Meritocracy must be required of all teachers, without exception, to promote quality education for the benefit of students, their families and the thousands of teachers appointed to the Public Teaching Career through their own effort and merit,” they said.
Finally, they pointed out that the future of millions of Peruvians lies in the hands of parliamentarians. “This is an opportunity for them to reaffirm and strengthen their commitment to serve the country and defend quality education,” they concluded.
