There is one week left for Congress to elect its new president and the Alliance for Progress (APP), the bench that, in theory, is responsible for leading the board of directors in the new legislature, arrives with internal problems that have worsened with the resignation of congressmen Gladys Echaíz and Héctor Acuña.
Without Echaíz and Acuña on the bench, and with APEP spokesman Eduardo Salhuana practically out of the race, because as a potential candidate he did not find support in the other benches, the current first vice president of Parliament, Lady Camones, appears as the only option.
But it is still uncertain if the parliamentarian will get the support of Acción Popular, Fuerza Popular, Renovación and Avanza País. Precisely these last two groups seek to incorporate Echaíz into their ranks, but the parliamentarian has not yet decided.

Who was left in the air was Acuña. Earlier yesterday, between tears, he left the presidency of the Congressional Budget Committee. The curious thing, in addition, was the intervention of Heydi Juárez, his colleague from APP, who apologized on behalf of the bench for having removed César Acuña’s brother from this organization. Juárez considered the decision premature.
On June 9, the Apepista congressmen Edith Julón, Alejandro Soto, Magaly Ruiz, Manuel García, Freddy Díaz, Rosío Torres and Heydi Juárez sent a letter to the president of APP, César Acuña, promoting the candidacy of Héctor Acuña for the Board of Directors.
The Apepist dome called on them to reflect on their signatures. Aware that he did not have the go-ahead, despite the fact that the majority of provincial congressmen support him, Acuña decided to step aside.

“I think there is a political inexperience that generated Mr. Héctor Acuña’s mistake,” said Luis Valdez, general secretary of APP, in RPP.
Uncertainty
With the departure of Echaíz and Acuña, APP is left with 12 legislators and loses a commission in the next legislature. This week, as spokesman Eduardo Salhuana announced, they will begin the round of dialogues with the benches to form a list for the board of directors. The first to knock on the door, according to Salhuana, are Fuerza Popular and Acción Popular. “We are with them because we have a political affinity,” he told reporters yesterday. That affinity must be reflected in the votes.
APP, to achieve its aspirations, needs 66 votes in plenary. With FP and AP, plus Podemos Perú, Somos Perú, Avanza País and Renovación Popular, you can boast a victory. Not without that. However, the radical right-wing blocs have their own interests.

And these aim to lead the board of directors. Before this Congress begins its functions, Renovación Popular made the mistake of launching a single-party list with its spokesman Jorge Montoya at the head. They failed. This time, Rafael López Aliaga’s party seeks to add Echaíz to collect his revenge.
The former prosecutor has not yet decided. If they join and run with RP, it would go against the verbal agreement of the spokespersons that leaves the way clear for APP to preside over the new board of directors. Days of negotiations are coming and also fights.
Executive conditions the election of the Board of Directors
On Sunday, in statements to Exitosa, the Minister of Justice, Félix Chero, said that if Congress does not elect a board of directors that generates consensus, the Executive would consider dissolving it. Later, on Twitter, he clarified that his statements were referred to “the constitutional authorization of the vote of confidence procedure.”

Immediately, the congresswoman from Avanza País Rosselli Amuruz and the APP spokesman, Eduardo Salhuana, requested yesterday that the minister be summoned to the Permanent Commission to answer for it.
The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Roberto Sánchez also stated that he hopes that the new board of directors will be articulating.

reactions
Eduardo Salhuana, APP spokesperson
“This week you should see that topic. The candidate has to be a Democrat and a person who has, in addition to that, the support of the other benches. It has to be a table with a lot of consensus”.
Luis Valdez, APP Secretary
“APP was evaluating each of the possibilities, Echaíz, Chiabra, Acuña, Camones and Salhuana were among those. They (Echaíz and Acuña) had an aspiration, but no patience”.
