Congress: Ruth Luque criminally denounces minister Becerra for discrimination against aimara women

Reaction. the congresswoman Ruth Luque presented, in her capacity as a legislator, a criminal complaint against the Minister of Education, Oscar Becerra, for the alleged illegal acts of discrimination and incitement to discrimination. The official letter was forwarded to the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, this March 8. The parliamentarian argued her proposal with the insults propitiated by the trusted man of Dina Boluarte two days ago, when he compared Aymara mothers to “animals” and suggested a “political use of infants.”

On March 2, Aymara groups marched around the San Martin Plaza when police forces lashed out with tear gas. The main victims were Quechua-speaking mothers who carried their children on their backs. four days passed for Becerra to refer to more than one expletive in demerit of the women demanding inclusive policies. For the minister, if women attend demonstrations (a universal right) with their children, they are “abusing” the child.

Luke concluded that Becerra’s sayings “replicate the flaws and stereotypes associated with the supposed irrationality of people of indigenous or native origin.” This mistaken ideology “prevents cognitive independence and discernment” by stating that they are “incapable of carrying out certain activities.” For example, deciding to protest without being “prompted”, as the minister also said without proof on Radio Cutivalú.

The statements by the head of Education also had an “affect in a collective environment” because “the aggression and stigmatization have had implications in both dimensions.”

Becerra issued a film message through his portfolio in this International Women’s Day. He wanted to apologize for the statements made, but ended by saying that his statement was “misinterpreted” and insisted that “children for political purposes” are used.
